SIGHT FISHING FOR REDFISH/ RED DRUM

The thrill of seeing a 24 to 31 inch Redfish tailing in less than two foot of water can only be compared to hooking, landing and releasing that same fish. It takes a very shallow drafted boat to go where the red fish feed. We utilize a 17ft. Pathfinder flats boat that will float in 6 inches of water. We will pole the oyster bars, live bottoms and grass flats that are Redfish havens. Both flyfishing and light tackle fishing can be used to stalk these challenging fish. You select the type of equipment you desire to use. Johnson gold spoons, red fish magic with gulp tails, deer hair flies and spoon flies deserve all of the recent popularity they have received.

The tides can be very important to successful Red fishing, so we must carefully plan our trip. We will fish at unusual hours to make sure we hit the tide 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide if the fish are on the flats or at low water to fish the oyster beds. High tides during the new and full moon are a must to find the fish up on the grass flats. Call me and I will check the tide tables.

Redfish trips take a minimum of a half day and six hours are recommended. We can plan a full day combination trip that may include shallow water fishing for redfish in the Pathfinder and the balance of the day in the ocean fishing for albies, trout or flounder in the 24ft. Hydra Sports.
